After a week of easy runs following the #svp100ultra race last week I decided to push the pace a little bit this morning to see how the legs would respond. Thankfully they felt pretty good so the aim is to resume marathon training next week. When I first started running it was a completely solo thing, and one that I knew very little about. To me, training was just getting outside and running whatever distance, I didn’t know about pacing or speed workouts or anything. One of my main goals for 2019 was to join a local running team so I could meet other runners and really learn the ropes. Prior to running I would not have described myself as a particularly disciplined person or a go-getter of any kind. Running has taught me that I can set a goal for myself that seems impossible at the time, and that I’m capable of logging the hours and putting in the work and getting myself to the finish line (literally). I’m training for my first marathon right now and the idea of running a marathon still completely terrifies me, but I’m out here putting in the work and I know I’ll get myself there eventually. . The Trefriw Mill Race. 11 miles. 2500ft of ascent. A lot of bogs. My second ever Fell Race - full of all the mistakes a newbie makes : hadn’t drunk enough beforehand; fell over (twice); couldn’t work out where I was going (many times). But that’s all part of the fun. Stunning views, some great running and a Top 50 finish* Defintely one I’ll go back to do again. Thanks to @trefriw_walking_festival for organising and to all the marshalls out on the tops. (*There were only 47 starters). #fellrunning#fellrunner

The day-to-day choices I make are more intentional, more self-aware, now. What I do today could effect tomorrows run, and I always have that in the back of my head. So, I try to make sure I’m drinking enough water, eating enough protein and carbs, getting enough sleep, all with the intention of making the next run a good one. I’m less YOLO these days and more ABH (Always Be Hydrating). . (2/5)
