#flashbackfriday to that one time I wanted Sierra (my old lease) and I to be @doversaddlery models.
•Now to something I've been thinking about•
Honestly, for the longest time, I've always somewhat ignored that I was the only black person in most of my equine environments. I ignored the odd looks, the whispers, and the glares. But as I got older it became harder and harder to ignore some of that stuff. Soon people would even come up to me and ask if I ride when I am obviously wearing riding clothes and give a puzzled look or two. For some reason that seemed to bug me. Probably because I felt it was a dumb idea and they seemed to question my ability to be in this sport.
Whenever I go to new barns now that I'm older I am always self-conscious about what they will think about me when they first meet me. Luckily for me, I have had no issues with the people at my barns saying anything rude straight to my face (that deals with my race). I honestly find as I move higher up in my riding and go to more expensive barns they're 100x nicer to me than those at barns when I first started. •
But, from being at these barns it shows me that there are good people in the world that want me to be successful and to achieve great things in this world. And because of those people it is what makes me stay in the equine industry. As for there not being many people that look like me in the Industry it doesn't bother me too much. It's honesty one of the things that keeps me going, if I continue achieving my goals and dreams I think being an inspiration to others will be pretty cool. Also, being apart of the this sport is something I enjoy and love so much I would hate to give it up completely.
